The German-speaking partner of Giving What We Can

Effektiv Spenden and Giving What We Can (GWWC) are close partners. We are both working to get more people giving, and above all giving more effectively. GWWC works internationally with a focus on 🔸Pledges; Effektiv Spenden works more broadly, but with a focus on Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Therefore, GWWC-As a donor—or “pledger,” if you will—one thing is especially important to you: Donations via Effektiv Spenden are tax-deductible in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland. Directly above Giving What We Can this is not possible.

Advantages of donating via Effektiv Spenden

  • Your donation is tax-deductible in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland. Thanks to this tax benefit, you can donate even more generously: as a 🔸10%-Pledger, for example, 10% of your gross income instead of 10% of your net income (more on this at GWWC).
  • The selection of available charitable organizations is very similar to that of GWWC.
  • As with GWWC you can easily split a donation between several projects.
  • You may have more payment methods available, e.g. SEPA direct debit.
  • Your donation will be passed on in full to Effektiv Spenden without any deductions.
  • Effektiv Spenden offers both English- and German-language customer service and donation advice.

Advantages of donating via Giving What We Can

  • Some charitable organizations or donation funds from the GWWC program are not available through Effektiv Spenden. If you find one of these options to be at least twice as effective as the best tax-deductible alternative, it’s advisable to forgo the tax benefit and donate accordingly less (learn more from GWWC).
  • If you donate directly through GWWC, your donations will automatically be recorded in your Pledge Dashboard. For donations made through Effektiv Spenden, however, you will need to manually enter them if you want to track your pledge progress there.
